Shirley Terry Obituary

Shirley Mitchell Terry, our beloved mother, grandmother, cousin and
friend departed this life on December 19, 2018 surrounded by her
loving family.
Shirley was born on January 11, 1935, to the union of Lilian and
Carlie Mitchell. In the early passing of her Mother, she was raised by
(Grandmother) Momma Coma. Shirley was preceded in death by her
parents, Momma Coma, and her husband, Henry B. Terry Sr. whom
she married in 1956 and produced her two children Kim Terry–Laney
and Hank Terry.
Shirley joined Sharon Baptist Church under the Pastoral teaching of
Reverend Bishop Keith Reed. She remained an active member until
her passing. Shirley was a woman of faith, she loved the Lord and
would pray with her cousin "Koot" Muriel. She had a passion for
helping and feeding people, especially those in need. Shirley and her
best friend Lucy Ford volunteered at Meals on Wheels where they
actively delivered to Seniors Citizens in need.
Shirley journeyed through the Philadelphia School System and
graduated from Girls High with honors. After graduating she landed
employment at Alvah Bushnell Company where she met her love
Henry B. Terry Sr. She later took employment as a Manager with
Verizon Wireless. She retired from her position with over 30 years of
service. Shirley was a loving,
kind-hearted, sincere soul and made statements with her well-
mannered and beautiful personality. She was beautiful from head to
toe and inside and out.
Shirley was well-liked, admired, and respected by her friends,
coworkers, and family. She was always willing to go the extra mile
for her family and friends. She earned respect from everyone she
met, was a great listener and provided good meaningful advice. She
was a wonderful cook, and excellent seamstress. She poured her
heart into everything that she prepared. Her favorite ingredient in
which she used in everything that she prepared was “Love." The
kitchen was where she spent most of her time entertaining,
laughing, and reminiscing with family and friends. Shirley was a die-
hard Eagles Fan and would cheer for them fervently. She also loved
the “Obamas”.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her children; Kim Terry-Laney
and Hank Terry Jr.; grandchildren Kyle Elliott and Jayla Terry; Son-In-
Law Dr. Lee Laney; Nikoya Meadows; Best friend Lucy Ford; a host of
cousins, family and friends.
Sorrowfully Submitted,
The Family
Grandma’s Gone To Heaven
One quiet day the angels came and took grandma far away. But in
the stillness of the night, I could almost hear her say, ‘Dear
Grandchild, I will miss you. You mean so much to me. But Jesus
called me to his side in Heaven. I will be in a place of God’s great
beauty; no tears or earthly cares. Just peace and joy forever, and
love beyond compare. So remember all the good times, don’t think
about the sad, and treasure all the special moments through the
years we’ve had. And if you trust in Jesus, I promise this and more,
you still get a hug from Grandma, someday on Heaven’s golden
shore.
Love Always,
