Rosetta Hattie Comegys was born on May 25, 1926 in Chestertown, Maryland to William and Allie Comegys. She was married to Ira Bentley in 1973 who preceded her in death. On October 30, 2023, Rosetta received her wings and went on to be with the Lord. She was lovingly cared for by her great granddaughter, Natasha Ricketts from 2017 until her passing.
Rosetta was a member of St. Paul CME Church in Chester, PA where she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board. She was employed by Taylor Hospital and Haverford State Hospital and retired from Haverford after several years working in dietary. She enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center in Chester playing Bingo and was a member of the Elks Home.
Rosetta had fifteen children; nine who preceded her in death, including George H. Gattis, Jr., Vernon Gattis and Stephen Gattis (sons of George H. Gattis Sr.) She was also preceded in death by sisters: Eva Freeman, Anna Johnson, Mary Pierce, Zelda Comegys and Lydia King and brothers: Luther Comegys and Charles Comegys.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five daughters: Brenda Boogs, Audrey Comegys, Naomi Gattis, Cynthia Granger, Tanya Gattis-Wadley, and one son: Benita Gattis. She has over 145 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
