Merle Ayton Obituary

In Loving Memory of Merle Rose Ayton

It is with profound sadness and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Merle Rose Ayton, who departed this life on August 26, 2026, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, at the age of 76.

Merle was born on October 7, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica, to the late Eric and Ivy McLeod. She attended Waulgrove High School in Kingston, Jamaica, where she received her education and began building the foundation for the remarkable life that followed.

Merle traveled and lived in Jamaica, Canada, and the United States. She also earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification and worked in several nursing homes in both Jamaica and USA.

Merle was a woman of strong faith and was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Kingston, Jamaica. Her faith was an important part of who she was and the values she carried throughout her life.

Those who knew Merle knew she was truly one of a kind. She was funny, outgoing, loving, strong-willed, and a disciplined Jamaican parent who believed in raising her children with love, guidance, structure, and strong values. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and her words often came with a touch of humor that made them unforgettable.

Merle was also known for her famous saying:

“Trust no shadow after dark.”

"Foul nuh mash  them pickney hot"

Those words became part of the wisdom and personality she shared with the people around her and are just one of the many things her loved ones will remember about her.

Merle found joy in the simple things in life. She had a special love for sweets and enjoyed listening to music. She especially loved singers such as Berris Hammond, Elton John, and Michael Bolton, among many others. Music, laughter, family, and good company brought her happiness.

Merle leaves behind her children, Robert Ayton, Owen Ayton, Lavern Falconer, and Michell Ayton-Taylor, her grandchildren, Kyra Ayton, Kamari Haywood, Matthew Ayton, Kayla Jackson, Darin Ayton and Krishna Taylor; daughters in law Amanda Ayton and Karen Ayton; son in law Krishna Taylor; her siblings, Anthony McLeod and Maureen McLeod; along with cousins, extended family, and many friends whose lives she touched.

Merle's life was a beautiful blend of faith, family, laughter, strength, love, music, and unforgettable personality. She leaves behind not only memories, but also lessons, stories, laughter, and words of wisdom that will continue to live on through her family.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that Merle's memory will live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Rest in peace, Merle. Your love, laughter, strength, wisdom, and beautiful spirit will live on in all of us.
