Mary Catherine (Cathy) Beckett

Chester, Pa – Cathy Beckett, 72, of Chester, PA. took her final flight into the arms of her Savior on January 20, 2022.

Cathy, daughter of the late James and Cleona (Tull) Beckett, was born in Salisbury, MD., on July 19, 1949. Cathy was educated in the Chester Upland School District and graduated with the class of 1967. Immediately after high school, Cathy started her nursing career at DCMH where she enjoyed helping & taking care of her patients. Later, Cathy started her longtime career with Sun Ship which eventually turned into Pennsylvania ShipYard, where she was employed for over 20 years until the company left Chester, PA. In between the years Cathy was employed working as a Data Entry Specialist, before finally securing a position at Keystone Mercy until she retired in 2016.

Cathy worshiped at Grace C.O.G.I.C for over 30 years. While attending Grace, Cathy was a member of the Gospel Chorus and also became a Missionary and later an Evangelist. In late 2016, Evangelist Beckett chose to continue her growth in Christ with the Temple of Prayer Church, Inc. of Chester, PA. While at Temple of Prayer, she chaired and participated in a plethora of committees. However, nothing provided her more joy than praying. Cathy would often accompany Pastor Freeman & other ministries while preaching on the road and it's been said that " If the ride was 4 hours long, then Evangelist Beckett prayed at least 3.5 hours of that ride". She prayed morning, noon, and night! Evangelist Beckett prayed for everyone! No matter the situation, you knew if anyone could get a prayer to the Lord it was definitely her. She often would brag about looking her Sunday’s Best and not just on Sundays. Let her tell it, she was the reason her nieces are Divas.

Cathy’s beautiful life will be forever cherished by her family: Siblings: Barber-Jean Finney (Renza ) of Pocomoke, MD., James E. Beckett, Jr. and Shirley A. Beckett of Chester, PA. Children: Howard Beckett, Sr. (Freida), Damon Beckett (Dionne), and Ikeya Beckett (Ralph). 14 grandchildren whom she adored tremendously! 11 great grandchildren whom she adored even more! A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins and friends. Cathy also had special friends in Christ that she held dear to the heart: Dr Lou-Ethel Weatherly, Sister Viola Hamm, Sister

Diane Booker Martin, and Sister Mary Kinard. A special thank you is also extended to the Crews Family for their love and support through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Cleona Beckett, Sr.; sister: Rosa Lee Beckett, Sister-in-law Alma Beckett, and Granddaughter Shanell Brightwell.

Evangelist Beckett was a Prayer Warrior and we know she prayed her way into Heaven!
