THE EARLY YEARS - On September 16, 1943, Lucille "Cille" Williams was the fourth blessing of eight born to the late Randolph T. and Mary Lee Williams in Mobile Alabama. She attended schools in Mobile until moving to Paterson, New Jersey with her family in 1956.
In Paterson, "Cille" worked with her mother cooking and cleaning in the family boarding home. While working she met and married the late Willie Moore Jr. To this union, their two children Debra and Warren were born while they resided in Paterson. In 1962, the couple moved their family to Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1965, they had their last daughter Michelle. In 1985, Lucille married Richard Freeman, the couple has resided in Chester throughout their marriage.
CHILD OF GOD, WOMAN OF GOD - Lucille accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at Stewart Memorial C.M.E. in Mobile Alabama where her grandfather the late Rev. R.W. Williams was pastor. When the family moved to Paterson, they took their worship to First A.M.E. Zion under the leadership of Rev. Mapp. Lucille served as Missionary, a member of the Stewardess Board and a Sunday School teacher. When her family moved to Chester, they joined Zion Baptist Church where her mother-in-law and aunt -in-law where founders under the pastoral care of the late Rev. James A. Crawford. A faithful member of Zion, Lucille was named Mother of the Church for her dedication to serving the church under the leadership of Bishop Febus Hunter. She served in several capacities at Zion including choir member and Deaconess. Her Christian stewardship extended from the church to local hospitals and homes visiting the sick and shut ins.
THE NURSES AIDE - Youthful and settled in Chester, this country girl found her passion for caring for others as a nurse's aide at Riddle Memorial Hospital in 1970. Lucille was a dedicated night shift employee in the Pediatrics Unit who rarely took a day off and received many accolades for her performance and attendance. She retired after a long forty-two years of service.
COMMUNITY - Lucille was referred to by many names according to the relationship she had with people. "Tudda, Mom, Lou, Lucy, Momma Lou, Miss Lucy, Cille, The Cookie Lady, First Lady", she responded to all these names of endearment. The Chester Senior Center held a special place in her heart, she loved everyone there. Bruton Day Care, where her daughter Debra is proprietor, was a daily stop for Lucille. She loved the babies, bringing them yogurt and snacks and mostly being close to her eldest daughter. "The Cookie Lady", the best Girl Scout Cookie seller ever, Lucy was dedicated to helping her great granddaughters sell and win top sellers, annually. Visiting churches, Chester community events and walking around the A-field were things she loved to do. Dancing and singing came naturally to Lucille, a blessing she passed down to her son Warren. Her nurturing spirit, to care for all without distinction is what she passed on to her daughter Dr. Michelle.
FAMILY LOVES - Lucille was raised with her seven siblings, Josie Barino, John Williams, Mattie McClendon (deceased), Twin brothers Ed and Ted Williams (deceased), Alice Traywick (deceased) and George Williams. Her Aunt Gloria (deceased) and cousins, Gloria, Michael (deceased), Peter, David, Charlie (deceased) and Otis also resided with Lucille's family.
Lucille's three heartbeats, Debra, Warren and Michelle will always love and cherish their mother. They thank God for being at her bedside as she fought the good fight during her transition. Forever their mother-in-law, Lucille, will be missed by her sons-in-law Daniel Sr., Sidney and daughter-in-law Lasaun. Lovingly called "Mom Mom" her nine grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren have eternal memories to share for generations to come.
Lucille's husband Richard will eternally be grateful for the love and compassion they shared for more than thirty-nine years. He will always remember her dedication, humble spirit and willingness to give unconditionally. He will never forget his "Lou".
Lucille will always be remembered for her kindness and loving heart by her stepdaughters Tameka Anderson and Nakia Freeman, stepson Richard Freeman Jr., three step granddaughters, one step-grandson and three step-great granddaughters, all who she adored. Her stepdaughters Monica Moore and Cora Dukes will cherish the many years of thoughtfulness she extended to them.
Lucille will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Barbara (John), Deborah (Ted), Gwen Williams, Isiah Holmes (Richard), Elva Wright (Carl Sr.) and Blanche Anderson (Anthony). Her brothers-in-law, Solomon Moses Sr., Arthur (Jeanetta) and Frankie Freeman will remember her always. Lucille has a special niece Lyvette Watkins who will love and appreciate her forever.
Sadly, Lucille was predeceased by two grandsons, Lamar Hatcher and Ralph Moore, a great- grandson Jalen Ferguson and two great-granddaughters, Sanai and Sa'miyah Daniels.
Lucille will be remembered for her loving heart, warm beautiful smile and infectious laugh by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, the Lamokin Village family, her Christian brothers and sisters and friends.
A special message from Josie Barina (sister) "Cille, my baby sister, I will miss our twice daily talks, prayers, laughter and memories. I love you, say hello to our family on the other side. Until we meet again, I will always love you".
