Obituary

Today we celebrate the life of Loretta M. Chappell-Atkinson born May 17th, 1961, in Chester, PA. She was the daughter of the late Roy Melvin Sr. And Jannie M. Chappell-Young (stepfather Rufus Young).

Loretta transitioned from life to eternity on 12/14/2022 at Riddle Hospital suddenly. Loretta was educated in the Chester public school system where she graduated class of 1980.
She was employed at Victory Cleaners in Springfield, PA for many years. In later her later years, she was a crossing guard for Chester Upland school district , and she worked at the Goodwill.
She was a loving mother of 3 children Nicole, Robert and Angela. One of her happiest moments was spending time with her 7 grandchildren. Loretta was a loving, kindhearted, caring and a fashionable lady. She was a Christian and would do anything for anyone to put a smile on their face. She always went above and beyond for anyone, she was our angel on earth.

Retta loved the lord; she was a prayer warrior. At an early age she gave her life to the lord. Later in life she rededicated her life to the Lord and remained faithful. Retta was about building God's kingdom. She exemplified the phrase "We are the Church". We are God's hand and feet on earth. She was a member of Haven of Hope Ministry. Three days before her passing she ushered all dressed in white. On that Sunday she was so happy. Psalms 84: 9-10 Behold our shield Oh God look on the face of your anointed. For a day in your court is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a door keeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. What a testimony!!

During Retta’s past time she loved doing arts and crafts also, shopping at thrifts stores. She loved cooking, especially if it meant getting her family and friends under one roof. She loved the sound of laughter, conversing with the Saints of her church and sharing the love of God whilst attending bible study.

Predeceased, her husband George A. Atkinson. Parents, Roy Melvin Sr,  Jannie M. Chappell-Young (Stepfather Rufus Young Sr). Brothers Jerry Chappell and Frankie Young. She leaves to cherish her precious memories and keep her spirit alive, 3 children, Nicole Chappell, Robert Thurgood and Angela Rowe. All of Chester Pa. 7 Grandchildren whom she most adored. 4 brothers, Eric Chappell (Elaina), Rufus Young (Carla) of Chester, Pa, Anthony Johnson Of N.C., Roy Melvin Jr of N.J. 4 Sisters, Maureen Johnson (Gregory), Shacona Young of Chester, Pa.
