Laura Mae Roberts Swann

On Wednesday, January26, 2022 in the early morning hours, Laura Mae Roberts Swann, 85 earned her wings.  She peacefully entered into eternal rest after spending time with family.

A native of Morton Pennsylvania, Laura was born on September 29, 1936 to the late William and Alberta Roberts.  She attended Phyllis Wheatley primary school then later graduated from Swarthmore High School in 1955.  Laura played field hockey in high school and was a member of the girl’s chorus.  Laura had a passion for music that developed at an early age.  This passion led her to the Boston Conservatory where she studied Piano.

Laura shared her musical gift, serving as the organist and pianist for her family’s home church, Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Lansdowne, Pennsylvania.  She also gave lessons to local children.

Laura worked for the Philadelphia Chewing Gum Company in Havertown, Pennsylvania before retiring after 38 years of service.  She was a dedicated employee who rarely missed a day of work.  She was known for traveling to work in some of the severest inclement weather.  This work ethic was instilled in each of her children.

When Laura was not at work she enjoyed regularly attending jazz concerts and productions at the Kimmel Theater in Philadelphia.  Laura was also a devoted Philadelphia Sports fan who never missed an Eagles or Sixers game.  On several occasions she attended Sixers games in person with her Beloved Jimmy.

Laura was a family woman.  She devoted her life to her husband of 50 years, Jimmy and her three children and grandchildren.  She loved hosting family gatherings. Christmas Eve gatherings were the best.  She also loved attending every one of her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities and school programs.  Laura also enjoyed family vacations and road trips.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, James Swann; parents, William and Alberta Roberts; siblings, Kenneth and Katherine Roberts.

Laura leaves to cherish her beautiful memories three loving children, Jocelyn Cosmen, Randy Roberts(Michele), Elisha Renee Lockhart (Kim); eight grandchildren, Jose Cosmen (Marva), Christopher Cosmen, Carmen Cosmen, Randy Roberts Jr(Brittany), Kimberly Lockhart, Elisha Lockhart, Devin Lockhart, Jasmine Roberts; three great-grandchildren, DeVaughn Cosmen, Artishon Cosmen, Jaeden Cosmen; three great-great grandchildren, Riley Cosmen, Shae and Cori Roberts; two sisters-in-law, Marian and Brenda Swann and  a host of other family and friends.
