Katie Marie Rodriguez (nee Spells) was born on July 1st, 1953, and passed away on November 18th, 2024. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, niece and friend, leaving behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and love. She was born into a large and loving family, the Spells, with many brothers and sisters. Growing up, she developed a sense of independence and responsibility, traits that would shape her throughout her life. She learned early on the value of loyalty, hard work, and standing up for what she believed in—qualities that would guide her through every chapter of her life.
In the 1970s, Katie made a bold decision that would define much of her adult life—she enlisted in the United States Air Force. Her commitment to service demonstrated not only her strong character but also her desire to contribute to something larger than herself. She served with pride and distinction, earning the rank of SMSGT. Her time in the military was integral in shaping her sense of discipline and responsibility, and she carried these traits with her throughout her life.
After leaving the Air Force, Katie focused on building a family of her own. In 1992, she gave birth to a son, Tyler. Katie’s nature translated into a deep devotion to her son, ensuring that he grew up as someone even better than herself.
Those who knew Katie would describe her as strong-willed, independent, and unapologetically true to herself. She was never one to shy away from a challenge or stand down in the face of adversity. Yet, beneath her strong exterior was a heart full of love and compassion. She may not have always shown it in conventional ways, but her care for her family was undeniable. Whether it was offering a listening ear or lending a helping hand, she would be there for those she loved, no matter the circumstance.
Katie’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends. Still her spirit lives on in those around her and although she's not with us physically, looks down upon the people she knew from above. She will be remembered not just for the challenges she overcame, but her affect on others, even when life seemed uncertain. Her love for her family was constant, and despite any differences that may have arisen over the years, her love for that family was never in question. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate her achievements, her strength, and most importantly, the love she gave to those who mattered most to her may, she rest in peace. You will always be remembered and never forgotten.
