Freddie Francis Miller, affectionately known as “Frog” or “Pop Pop,” was born on May 9th 1939 in Chester, Pennsylvania to Freddie Francis and Sarah Purnell Miller. He was the youngest of thirteen children.
At an early age, Fred attended Grace United Methodist Church of Chester, Pennsylvania with his family. He was baptized in 1941 by the Minister B.A. Arnold and remained a member at Grace United throughout his childhood.
Fred was educated in the Chester School District and graduated from Chester High School in June of 1957. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country proudly as a radio transmitter at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Fred always told great stories about his Air Force days. He loved to tell anyone who who would listen about all of the places he traveled. However, his stories of intercepting and transcribing German messages were what he liked to tell the most. Following his tour with the Air Force, Fred continued to work in government service at the United States Mint. Following his retirement from the US Mint, still needing to be active, Fred began serving seniors by driving transport buses for Community Transit of Delaware County. He worked until the ripe old age of 76 and enjoyed every minute of it.Fred loved bowling, a good ole game of pinochle, and the race track. He loved to play the horses and numbers and boy could he hit. But he wasn't a selfish player, he shared his picks and numbers so that you could hit also. He also loved music. You could often catch him humming or singing the oldies. Sometimes he was so off key that you didn't recognize the song, except for when it came to his favorite, “At Last” by Etta James. On May 24, 2020, heaven’s gates opened to receive Freddie into the Kingdom. His fond memories will forever remain with his wife, Evangelist Thelma Green Miller, son, Warren Miller (Tracey) and step-children William Green (Barbara), Darrell Mosley, Michelle Tull (George), Gloria Ferguson (Eric) and Avery Mosley. He will likewise be remembered bu his sisters, Frances Lawson and Marge Crosson; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fred will also forever be remembered by Alice Hart Miller and Frank Lewis, with whom he shared special relationships. Fred was preceded in death by his sons, Freddie Miller, Jr and Paulie Johnson.
