Florence Martin Obituary

Florence Annette Martin, affectionally known as “Tutti”, was born on April 12, 1959 in Lansdowne, Pa, to the late Doris Martin- Hughes and Paul Thomas. She departed this life peacefully on December 13, 2023 at Riddle Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Being the middle sister of four children, Tutti found her way to making her mark and standing out in a quiet way. She wasn’t a woman of many words, but when she walked into a room her presence was felt because of her beautiful smile and her infectiously sweet personality.  Tutti, never met a stranger because everyone wanted to be her friend. She was raised in Darby, Pa and received her formal education through the William Penn School District. While attending High school, Florence played Field Hockey and Track and Field. She was a proud member of the graduating Class of 1977 from Darby-Colwyn High school. Classmates remember her as “a caterpillar who morphed into a beautiful butterfly that was filled with kindness and compassion”.

When not participating in activities at school, she was a very active member of her beloved church, Mt. Zion AME Church located in Darby, Pa. Tutti participated on a number of church organization as a child, being a member of the choir, an usher and a part of the local and connectional Y.P.D . As an adult she continued with many of her churchly duties, becoming a part of the nurses’ unit and especially singing on the church choir until she could no longer do so due to health concerns. Florence loved the Lord and was steadfast in her faith which allowed her to overcome many obstacles in her life. One of her favorite bible verses was “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear” (Psalm 27:1), and that’s exactly how she lived her life, “walking by faith and not by sight” (2nd Corinthians 5:7).

Florence was all about family. She married her childhood sweetheart Osmond (Ozzie) Irons in 1977. During their 42 year union, they were blessed with three beautiful children: Osmond Jr (Lil Ozzie), Kalita and Odell. She looked forward to being around family and friends every chance she had. Tutti was a sentimental person, and loved when others were happy. Spending time with Lil Ozzie and Carol watching her beloved Eagles, talking with him on his lunch breaks daily and allowing him to assist her with appointments. Tutti looked forward to her mother daughter dates with her favorite Girl Kalita, at the nail salon, shopping sprees, and having girl talk which always starts out like, “Hey Girly, whatca doing Lady”. She cherished the times she spent at family gatherings, like Christmas and especially Thanksgiving. She also enjoyed helping Kalita to wrap Christmas gifts for the grandchildren. “Mom Mom Tutti” made it a point to be present for everything that her grandchildren were a part of. She enjoyed every celebration that allowed her to help and assistance whenever needed. No need for a baby sitter, Mom Mom was on duty.  She especially loved the celebration that was given in her honor for her 60th birthday, that memory was forever etched in her heart.

Florence was employed with a couple of financial Institutions, Fidelity Bank and The Franklin Mint as well IVB Operations Center and Jefferson Hospital. Her smile, personality and sweet spirit allowed everyone that she came in contact with feel welcomed and comforted. She was well liked by all who knew her.

Florence was predeceased in death by her parents Doris Martin- Hughes and Paul Thomas and her beloved husband Osmond Irons Sr and her best friend Helen Wingington. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory, her children Osmond Jr, Kalita (William) Irons-Sargent, Odell (Jade) Irons , siblings Barbara Boulware , William Martin , Marion Biggs twenty-one grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, God daughters Kareema Saunders and Erin Wingington, and special friend Irvin Asbury, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
