On Friday, October 6, 2023, Pastor Doris Artwell finished her earthly assignment and went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her son and daughter. Doris was born on December 3, 1951, to the late Fannie and Bolden Armstead.
Doris, “Miss Dot” was well-known in her community. She was a loving mother to her children and the best “Mom-mom” on this side of heaven. Her nieces and nephews affectionately called her “Aunt Dottie Karate,” because they all knew she would get them “together” with just a “quick chop.”
Raised in Twin Oaks, Pennsylvania, Doris attended the Chichester School District before moving to Chester, Pennsylvania where she raised her family. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Caregiver at Manchester House in Media, Pennsylvania, Fair Acres in Lima, Pennsylvania, Honors Home Care, and ComForCare Home Care in Media.
At an early age, Doris accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Doris loved the Lord and answered the call God had on her life founding Victory Tabernacle Church, in Chester, Pennsylvania where she pastored for years. Pastor Artwell was a servant leader, led by the Holy Ghost when offering her wisdom, teaching, preaching, mentoring, and spiritual guidance to anyone who allowed her the opportunity. Pastor Artwell was well-known and respected among her peers in the gospel.
After years of ministering at Victory Tabernacle, Pastor Artwell became an active member of the House of Prayer Cathedral of Fire, in Delaware. Under the leadership of Apostle Anthony Armstrong, the title Mother of House of Prayer was appointed to Pastor Artwell.
Mother Artwell loved spending time in the presence of the Lord, with her family and friends. Her laughter was truly infectious.
She was a mother to so many and has forever left her imprint on their hearts. In her presence, you felt loved and there was nothing she would not do to help you in any way she could. She always had a word of encouragement when you needed it and “dropped spiritual gems” to keep you on your toes.
Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Artrina Artwell, parents, Fannie and Bolden Armstead Sr., brother, Bolden Armstead Jr., and sisters, Elizabeth Harrington, Florine King, and Henrietta Lawson.
Pastor Artwell leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Joseph B. Armstead Sr. (Pamela) of Moore, OK, John Artwell (Nikesha), Greg Artwell, Lashone (Lateschia) of Chester, PA, a daughter, Fanee Artwell (Anthony Escribano) of Chester, one brother-in-law, Jean L. King Jr of Linwood, PA, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a goddaughter, Tonya Rhymer, of Delaware.
