DeShawn Desmond Poller was born on January 30, 1974 in Stratford, NJ. He transition to his eternal rest on August 6, 2022.
DeShawn spent most of his childhood in Deptford, NJ where he attended Oak Valley Elementary School. As he entered his teenage years he lived in Pennsauken, NJ and graduated from Pennsauken High School. DeShawn’s adult years were spent in Southwest Philadelphia where he attended classes at Philadelphia Community College.
DeShawn had a big presence and was noticed for his tall height and his ability to interact and hold a conversation with just about any person. DeShawn lived his life based on inner truth, spirituality, peace, laughter and travel. For the past 17 years DeShawn worked for the City of Philadelphia’s Health Federation where he was a benefits counselor responsible for operation of the Health Insurance Benefits program at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. DeShawn was instrumental with helping U.S. Citizens and new Immigrants obtain Health Insurance Benefits for their families. Often his clients commented how kind and compassionate he was during their appointments in his office.
DeShawn had aspirations of traveling the world and he especially enjoyed his new found hobby of cruising. Often, he could be found taking weekend getaways to NYC, Baltimore or Washington, D.C.
DeShawn leaves to cherish his memory, his Mother Debbie,Step-Dad Mike, Brother Will, Sister-in-Law Tyresha, Uncle’s Bobbie, Jeffrey and Gregory, Aunts Yvonne, several special cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Bobbie Sr. Mary Poller and nephew Da’Kari-Lee Poller.
