Curtis’ Life Journey
Curtis Wilson (1934-2025) was the youngest son of thirteen siblings, born to the late Mose and Julia (Tate) Wilson on September 17, 1934, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was the last surviving child.
Curtis moved from Tuscaloosa, Alabama with his family in the seventh grade to Brownsville (Hiller), Pennsylvania. He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1952. After graduation he moved to Ohio, where he enlisted in the United States Army and he served for three years, receiving an honorable discharge.
Curtis later moved to Chester, Pennsylvania where he met the love of his life, Annette M. Spence. They were joined together in holy matrimony for sixty years. God blessed their marriage with four beautiful children; Curtis (Abdullah) Allan, Annette (Mattie), and Stanley.
Curtis confessed and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He later fellowshipped at Helping Hands Ministry in Maryland and at Murphy AME, Mt. Hebron AME and Enon Baptist Church both located in Pennsylvania.
Curtis began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Lester, Pennsylvania in 1960. He worked in the power generation division as a Turbine Technician for twenty-six years. He was blessed to earn an early retirement at the age of 55.
Curtis was a kind, pleasant, considerate, and loving husband, father, grandfather, relative, and friend. He was affectionately known as “Big Curt,” “Pops,” “Uncle Curtis” and “Mister Wilson.” He enjoyed being around his family far and near, travelling to Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Tennessee, and West Virginia to visit them, regularly. He also traveled to Canada and the Caribbean Islands and went on several cruises with his family. “Pops” was always ready with his hat and coat to hit the road. He recently completed a trip to Alabama, at his request.
Curtis was an avid baseball and football fan. He enjoyed a day at the races, watching thoroughbred and harness racing. He enjoyed reading newspapers online, completing wordsearch puzzles, listening to his piano hymns daily, and keeping company with his “grand cat” China. Even in his 90s, he stayed fit by exercising every morning, working in the yard, gardening, and taking daily walks around the neighborhood and various parks. Curtis liked to plant trees, flowers, vegetables and to witness “the fruit of his labor”.
Curtis enjoyed a debate on any subject, especially politics, with anyone including hearty debates with the Wilson brothers.
Curtis would always enjoy reading the bible and one of his favorite bible verses is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:2, “...that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.”
He was a man who truly loved and believed God’s Word. Another scripture he would often quote because of its wisdom, is Proverbs 26:17, “Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own.”
Curtis Wilson was preceded in death by his loving wife Reverend Annette M. Wilson. He is survived by his children and stepchildren; Curtis (Abdullah) C. Wilson (Sanae), (DE), Allan W. Wilson and Annette Mattie Wilson, (PA), Stanley A. Wilson (Shan), (GA), John C. Spence (Denise), (PA) Sheila Robertson and Wesley A. Spence (DE). He leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends and two sister-in-law’s, Fannie and Maurine Wilson, (OH) and he was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
