Clifford L. Reeves Jr., a man of profound dedication, faith, and love, was born on January 10, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, to te late Rubelle Baxter Reeves Wilson and Clifford Reeves Sr. His life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence, his deep love for family, and his enduring faith.

Clifford’s early years in Coatesville, PA, were marked by his exceptional athleticism, particularly in basketball and track. His outstanding  performance on the track earned him a full scholarship to Morgan State University, and he furthered his education at Goldey - Beacom College, Del-Tech, and the University of Delaware. His service in the University States Army was equally distinguished, where he competed in the Olympic trials for the 440m hurdles before receiving and honorable discharge. His career and personal life were defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to chose he love.

Professionally, Clifford began his career as a foreman at Lukens Steel, then he moved to Pontiac, Michigan to become a manager for General Motors. His role was pivotal during a period of significant transformation in the automotive industry. Following a major crisis in the auto industry, he returned to Lukens Steel. A major paradigm shift eventually redirected Clifford’s career path toward education. He found a new calling at the University of Delaware, where he served a manager in Housing and Residence Life. His work there was marked by his dedication to creating supportive and enriching environments for students.

Upon retiring from the University of Delaware, Clifford continued to impact lives through his role as a facilities manager at Children and Family First. His commitment to service extended further as he took on part-time roles with Ryder and the local school district, embodying his belief in the importance of community and education.

Clifford’s personal life was characterized by deep love and joy. He cherished the company of his cousins, Craig and Jimmy baxter, and relished family gatherings. His enthusiasm for luxury cars, vacations, and his deep affection for his children and grandchildren were central to his life. Though glaucoma later limited his ability to read, his passion for literature never waned. His greatest pride and joy were his family. And his care and devotion were evident in every aspect of his life.

His relationship whit his wife, Madeline, was a cornerstone of his life. Their love story was one of unwavering support and mutual respect, especially as they navigated the challenges posed by Madeline’s lupus. Their marriage was characterized by open communication and prayer, a testament to their shared faith and commitment. Clifford’s appreciation for Madeline was profound, and their time together, including their beloved vacation to Virginia Beach, Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Antigua, was a source of immense joy.

Clifford’s spiritual journey was deeply intertwined with his life’s purpose. Baptized at a young age, he was nurtured in the Church of God in Christ before joining Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1992. His love for gospel music and his involvement in the church’s music ministry were reflections of his deep faith. Despite the physical challenges imposed by arthritis, Clifford remained an active member of his church community, and the usher boarder, finding solace and connection through streaming services and supporting his church family.

His culinary talents, developed under the guidance of his stepfather and mother, were an testament to his heritage and creativity. He loved cooking for family and friends and took pride in sharing his skills through piano lessons, aiming to expose children of color to the transformative power of music.

In his life, Clifford embodied the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV): “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. “His faith guided him through life’s challenges and triumphs, and his love for the Lord was a central pillar of his existence. Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, Rubelle Wilson and Clifford Reeves, Sr., and his stepfather John Wilson.

He leaves behind a legacy of Loveland faith, cherished by his devoted wife, Madeline; his daughters, Katherine, Renae (Gilbert), and Lynette; his beloved grandchildren, Jamilla, Jashon, Jalien, and Jada; and his great-grandchildren, Aria Harris, Janaysia Vaughn, and Loyalty Vaughn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marian Johnson; nieces Gia and Alanue Johnson, his cherished cousins, including Cynthia Baxter and Rev. Milton Baxter; his special godson Kent Baxter; and a host of adopted nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

As we reflect on Clifford’s remarkable life, we find comfort in 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV): “ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, Have kept the faith.” Clifford L. Reeves, Jr. lived a life defined by love, faith, and dedication. His memory will endure in the hearts of all kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
