In Loving Memory of Arlene Bice-Bey
Arlene Bice-Bey, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on August 31, 2025. She was 83 years old.
Born on July 22, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Arlene was the daughter of the late Melvin Sr. and Florine Blake. She grew up in a family as one of six children, where she learned the values of faith, love, and perseverance.
Educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools, Arlene developed a love of learning and a heart for service. She went on to pursue a career in nursing, where she cared for others with compassion, skill, and dignity. To her patients and colleagues, she was more than a nurse she was a healer.
Her proudest role, however, was that of mother. She was the devoted mother of Andrea Ramona Blake, Anita Blake, the late Arlene "Ginger" Blake, Pamela Denise Gibbs, and Gregory Tyrome Blake. She also welcomed with love her son-in-law Phil Gibbs and daughter-in-law Kristen Blake.
Arlene was the cherished grandmother of Anedra Blake, Andrew Blake, Asia Blake, Aigner Johnson, the late Allante Johnson, Mark Middlebrooks, Ashante Blake, Jahmere Blake, Jahkime Blake, Shanira Blake, Maya Blake, and Gregory Blake Jr., and the proud great-grandmother and Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was also a loving sister to the late Melva Taylor, Emma, Barbara, Janice and brother Melvin Jr.
Arlene's calm strength, wisdom and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She balanced her career and family life with grace, always providing love, guidance, and support. She found joy in simple moments— family conversations, cooking, the laughter of her grandchildren, a favorite song, or quiet time with her Bible.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her nursing, in the values she instilled in her children, and in the love she shared so freely.
Arlene will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
