Jean Pierre Rivers

Jean-Pierre Rivers was born on March 3, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the third child of the late Theresa Camille Bailey Rivers and Collon Jeffery Rivers. He passed on July 14, 2019 in the city of his birth.
Jean-Pierre was a contractor, specializing in renovations, plumbing, and electrical work. Just prior to his passing, he had started a new position, providing electrical service for cell towers in the area. He was fond of posting videos of his renovations-in-progress, his deep voice explaining the problems and remedies of the day,
Jean-Pierre was known for his sense of humor, keen insights into the human condition, philosophical bent, and love of family. He could be relied upon to spin well-considered stories about the vagaries of life and human nature—especially when they involved his family. He could always be counted on to listen, sympathize and offer words of encouragement. His love was genuine and consistent, and his smile was infectious.
Jean-Pierre’s spirituality extended to the study of Christianity and Islam. He also taught himself Spanish, becoming nearly fluent. He possessed a fully developed, expressive singing voice and sang for numerous church services, accompanied by his grandmother on piano. He frequently burst into one of his favorite gospel songs while walking down a hallway. He also was practiced in the martial arts, earning his black belts in karate and jeet kune do.
Jean-Pierre is survived by his son, D’Andre, his sisters, Victoria and Jacquline, his grandmother, Frances, his aunts, Jackie, Barbara, and Felicia, his uncle Wesley, his cousins Galen, Felicia, Mya, Ava, and Shaun, as well as his extended family and friends.
